Youth Mentoring Series
MEN OF COURAGE has established a Youth Mentoring Series that trains adult men to become mentors to male youth. OUTSIDE THE OUTERBELT (OTO) offers guidance and support in terms of life choices and the consequences of said choices, and how the choices made by our youth, not only affect themselves and their families, but also their classmates, the communities in which they reside and society as a whole. The goal of OTO is to not only assist with guidance, but to develop mentees to eventually become mentors and give back to the community.
OUTSIDE THE OUTERBELT (OTO)
Guidance, Support, Resources, Exposure, Connecting, Epansion
- Potential mentors are required to complete structured youth mentoring training through the Mentor Central Ohio Agency (focusing on adherence to national mentoring standards). Potential mentors are also required to attend a “Heart of a Mentor” workshop created by and facilitated by Men of Courage. Mentors are required to agree to a one-year commitment to ensure relationship building to become a positive role model in that youth’s life.
- Men of Courage has established a mentoring series that trains adult men to become mentors to youth (ages 11-17). Outside The Outerbelt offers support individually and in a group setting. The goal of our YMS is to develop the minds of male youth so that they can think critically about their life-choices and understand that said choice not only affect them personally, their choices also affect their families, classmates, the neighborhoods in which they reside and society as a whole. Another goal of Outside The Outerbelt is to not only assist with guidance, but to also develop the mentees to eventually become mentors and give back to the community.
- Mentors are offered the opportunity to mentor in a school-based setting as well as opportunities outside of the school-based setting.

Our Mission
To improve the lives of young men by providing guidance, support and resources that will assist them in developing the skill of “critical thinking” and becoming healthy, loving adults who thrive in serving their families and communities.
Our Purpose
To counteract the negative effects of modern culture on our “Young People” and those that have distorted both their identity and purpose while offering support as they reach their destiny and become the men and women that they were created to be.
Our Vision
Provide support to parents, educators and youth advocates while preparing our “Young Men” for manhood, with an emphasis on exposing, connecting and expansion.
